Dance

I am fascinated with dance. I don't have the time to study it, although I've always wanted to take some lessons, but I'm fascinated with the way that a person, or two people, can move together to a beat and make something beautiful out of it.

I don't care if it's ballroom, salsa, techno, or hip-hop, or step teams, dance is great. I love to dance, even though my skills are mostly self-taught and lean towards the "if you're having fun, to hell with anyone who thinks it looks dumb" side of things.

Because of my fascination with dance, any movie with dancing as it's focus is something I'm going to watch.

If it has the added bonus of Antonio Banderas in it, well, I'm all over that....

Farmgirl, Have you seen an Australian film called "Strictly Ballroom"? (Antonio Banderas isn't in it though.) They're doing all manner of ballroom types in competition. And you get the guy who won't play their politics and makes up his own steps. Then, he and his partner wind up learning a lot more about dance from *her* family than they'd have ever learned at the school. A friend of mine introduced my Mom and sister to this movie, but didn't think I- me just being me- would get anything out of it. I watched it and it's got great dancing... and it's hilarious.

Thinking of dance classes though, my sister studied ballet, jazz, and something or other else for about three years. The classes are mostly just to build up for a recital which is mostly to make the dance school look good.

My daughter's a dancer and I was in my first ballroom dancing class only four weeks after a hysterectomy (I'd been waiting for those to come to the area so I jumped on it - unfortunately couldn't continue because they insisted on doing this on Football nights). I love dance and dancing and I tend to gravitate toward the partner dances - all of them - myself. There is something very beautiful and magical about them.

And when I was on the dance floor learning the moves even right after surgery? I found myself laughing out of the sheer joy of it.
