Bass Pro Shop Outdoor World

Oh. My. God.

We're in Denver (again) for an appointment with the new surgeon on Farmmom's knee (again) which got everything ready to rock and roll for next Friday on the surgery (finally) and we hit Bass Pro Shop to pick up a few odds and ends...

Oh. My. God.

Totally aside from the knowledge that I really, really should stick my hands in my pockets and walk through that store with my head down to avoid spending wayyy too much money, in their fish tank I saw, my hand to Jebus, a catfish that weighed more than Farmdog.

No joke this thing must have been a good sixty pounds. I've never seen a fish with fat rolls before.

Meanwhile... I whimpered so loudly in the camping section that several onlookers wondered if I were mentally retarded or into some kinky sexual thing involving tents and gear.

Once upon a time I visited the Cabelas in Dearborn, Michigan--I remember seeing a bass in their aquarium so large it had swallowed one of it's tank-mates whole, and only had the tail sticking out. It probably could have swallowed my leg.

Well? Don't keep us wondering. Are you into some kinky sexual thing involving tents and gear? Can we see photos?

*nods sagely*

MrsZ usually takes away my wallet before letting me into a Cabela's or BassPro unattended.

I'm just happy we live 45 minutes from the nearest Bass Pro and an hour and a half from the nearest Cabela's. We would spend a ridiculous amount of time (and money) there if either store were any closer.

I don't go into Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's or Gander Mountain alone. I always bring a friend, ideally a female with more fiscal responsibility than I have.

I used to use the buddy system with my friends, until one day both of us walked out with guns and gear, and our wives forbade us to ever go to Bass Pro together again.

I hope amid the rounds of labtests, etc, you and Farmmom are having fun! (Sure sounds like it...) As far as Cabela's goes, I did blog about my very first visit there...;)

Oh, and I've never made it into a BassPro Shop, even though they have a HUGE one at the Silverton Casino in Las Vegas. Probably a good thing...

I think I end up being that female friend with fiscal sense, and a knee that eventually Wants To Sit Down Now for a time limit.

I was very disappointed the last time I went in for something I wanted - and they didn't have nitrate salts for curing game. I shall use this disappointment like a shield the next time I get near the ammo... or the camping gear...

Don't ever go to Cabelas then... :-)

The BIG Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, MO did have a 80lb Blue Catfish. It was supposedly a state record caught nearby and bought by Bass P for their tank.

What is scary, though, is the carp in some lakes. I took a tour of one of southern Missouri's damns. We walked down through tunnels until we came to a window embedded in the face of the damn. The tour guide turned on a light to show a carp that was bigger than I was!! (I was much younger then.) They swim near water intakes and let the food come to them.

Monstrous things!

Irish Woman calls Bass Pro "The Dead Zoo" for all of the taxidermy. I make sure I leave my wallet in the car and only take in the amount of cash I can afford to spend.

I felt that way when we went into Gander Mountain and I was only looking for snap caps. I had $ in my wallet and was considering more purchases but hubby dragged me out!
